Robinson Construction

The Situation

Jerry Robinson is a contractor in Eastern Iowa. In late 2024 he decided to stop doing things informally and build an actual business. J. Robinson Construction, LLC was filed with the Iowa Secretary of State in December 2024. What came next was the work of turning a legal entity into a functioning, credentialed, branded, operational business.

I handled most of that.

Brand & Identity

Before anything else, the business needed to look like a business. That meant creating a complete visual identity from scratch: logo and logo variations, a brand style guide, color palette, typography system, and usage guidelines. Every asset delivered in multiple formats — print-ready, web-ready, social-ready. From there: letterhead, project bid sheet, business card designs, email signature, favicon, LinkedIn banner, Facebook cover, and a mock website layout.

Social Media & Content

The Facebook Business Page was built, branded, and handed off with full admin access — plus a plain-language Quick-Start Cheat Sheet written for someone managing a business page for the first time. No jargon. No assuming prior knowledge. The social content library runs 60+ graphics across service spotlights, seasonal promotions, lead generation, and brand awareness.

Print & Business Documents

Professional print materials and operational documents built to match the brand: multiple letterhead versions, project bid sheet, invoice template, estimate sheet, info flyer, direct mailer, customer appreciation card, referral program document, and Jerry's Cheat Sheet — a condensed operational reference for daily use.

Operations & Systems

This is where it gets real.

A construction company that can't track what it's doing, what it's spent, where it's licensed, or which vendor programs it belongs to isn't a business — it's a guy with tools. The operations work I did for J. Robinson was about changing that.

The Ops Tracker

A multi-tab Google Sheets workbook covering licenses and certifications (Iowa DIAL, Lead-Safe RRP, Radon, OSHA 30, BPI, RESNET, electrical, plumbing, mold), CENDO application tracking, platforms and programs, passwords and logins, a full binder index with digital folder paths, and a READ_ME with instructions for the whole system.

The Daily Job Site Report

A Google Form connected directly to Drive. Crew submits from the field: job site, clock-in/out, odometer readings, mileage, expenses by category, receipt photos, job site photos, field notes. Everything routes automatically. Jerry gets a timestamped daily record of every job without a single phone call.

The Vendor Research File

Contractor registration and vendor program opportunities across 10 categories: federal (SAM.gov), state (Iowa DIAL, DAS IMPACS), municipal (Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Davenport, Iowa City), utility rebate programs, insurance and home warranty networks, retail pro programs, lead gen platforms, certifications and licenses, and local Iowa directories. Plus a 50-state contractor licensing reference covering every state's threshold, governing body, and registration requirements.

Legal & Compliance

Supported the filing of the LLC Certificate of Organization with the Iowa Secretary of State (December 2024). Completed and organized the VA Loan Guaranty Program Builder and Sponsor Application (signed January 2025), registering J. Robinson Construction as an approved builder for VA-backed construction loans — a meaningful credential for a company targeting residential and renovation work.

What This Engagement Was

This wasn't a branding project. It wasn't a social media gig. It was building a business — from the LLC paperwork forward — across brand, digital presence, content, operations, compliance, and systems. One person. Multiple disciplines. One client who can now run his company with actual infrastructure behind him.
